Hi Erik, we ran into you at a petrol station about 100km before Istanbul. We were 4 guys in a Silver Skoda, driving from London to Mongolia. I was super interested in your trip and always said i would go on your website, glad i did because your trip sounds amazing!
All the best,
Team We, Like You – Mongol Rally 2009
I heard about your blog from a friend. While I was checking your blog, some questions occured in my mind. I would greatly appreciate if you could answer them.
Why did you protect the “water” with a password. It is one of the essential elements of nature and very important for all of us, I am sure you must have observed many important sources as a scientist and why don’t you share your observations?
Also I was wondering the purpose of your trip, why did you choose that “route”?
How do you eliminate the pictures that you put on your blog? I realized that you don’t really post the beautiful parts of the city but mostly the voulnarable/sad/poor parts of the places you visit, is there a reason for that?
Also as a cyclist how do you protect your health? Do you eat food with high calories, how many calories would you have to intake in a day?
Nerviye – Hi,
Glad you dropped by to have a look at the site!
The water page is protected simply since it is not yet finished, when it is i will share whatever i have gathered!
The route is a somewhat loose constalation of places, people and coutries that i’m interested in for different reasons. I have been quite flexible so far, changng the route as i roll.
i’m not sure what you meran by eliminate, some might be gone due to problemns at the flickr page, you can find more photos under the photo link.
for the choice of pictures, simply can not be bothered in the photos that you can buy on post cards, in some more pretentious way i’m interested in the truth rather than the tourist attractions.
i eat what i can get a hold of, sometimes more sometimes less- for sure i might need more than i eat sometimes and during ramazan it is not dead easy to find that good old kebap everywhere. i think i need some 5000kcal per day, maybve less when it is hot maybe more when it is freezing.
thqank you for the Q’s, hope you got some answers, take care of seda!
What a great read this is. Reminds me of “The Sheltering Sky” updated to 2009. I am traveling now in Europe which has become almost like traveling back home in the States, not bad, just not “soul expanding”. Best Wishes
Hey Erik! What you´re doing is so impressive! How is your budget coming along? Are you thinking about trying to get a work along the way? Good luck with everything!
budget is ok, been lucky enough to meet very generous people along the way. without that, i think it would have been hard to make it. Sticking to pasta and cooking a lot on my own is quite a good way to get around.
With the break down of the bike once a month the budget is stressed. Hope to find a bit of work in georgia for the winter.

Our mutual friend Tomma told me about your trip, and I just have to share I think it’s an amazing journey you are undertaking.
Enjoy Tbilisi, and be aware: people tend to get hypnotized by the charm of the Caucasus, unable to leave this amazing part of the world .
