Ko to tamo peva

I found small gravel roads in Slovenia that took me to the border by just riding on the compass, great way to see the country. Passing the first border where I had to try to find my passport. No problems. In Croatia I could only find one road and this took me over hills and trough valleys all the way to Zagreb. I had to do the last 10 km on the highway, a bit of a stress there. I’m getting used to the traffic on the smaller roads and I find that taking space is the only way to not get hit by the cars or the trucks.

I assume no one wants to hit me and then it all comes down to being seen. my yellow shirt and the red helmet sticks out and when i get in the middle of the road the traffic has to care, slow down and pass when possible. This does not alwys work though and yesterday as I made my way down the road here in Croatia I looked up to see a car coming at me as the driver was trying to overtake 5 cars in the same move. The driver had his eyes fixed in the horizon, not honking the horn, ignoring me completly and I took refuge in the ditch with bike and all. Ha ha, I started hollering but after a second i realized he was already long gone.

I started to listen to the Pimsleur Russian classes. It is sort of a fun way to learn a language but I would have choosen another set of topics for what is taught. To start with it makes sense, you learn how to say hello and ask for the way. In lessons 4,5,6 you get the vocabulary to ask someone out and then in the 9th or 10th lesson you learn how to get dumped, it seems. Anyway I’m sure I learn something, at least I will know when it is over.
