As I was leaving my dear friends in Turin I met a demonstraion of students and I met Giorgio, the responsible for the “Critical mass” in the region. As i’m heading to the critical mass in Rome this was very interesting.
He told me that there was loads of things happening that same day and the day after and that I really should stay another day. I had decided to leave already and i’m not quite that spontaneous i realized. I got on my bike again and headed down Vittorio Emanuele towards the river. After our conversation I felt like staying in Turin another night for the demonstrations, take photos and see what is was all about. Hmm, really indecicive here.
I did not get far out of the city center before I saw that a campsite was created in one of the parks on the river. It seemed really interesting and the people looked at me in a very friendly manner. I stopped to talk to the people who had organized this “sheerwood camp”, an urban campsite for pacifist activists. They invited me to stay and introduced me to some people who are active in moving the city toward being more bike friendly, very nice people!
There was a demonstration in the GM at the polytech and later that evening planning for the big demonstration (that unfortunatly ended violently). There are plenty of really interesting and brilliant minds among the active students at the polytech in Turin and a group from France had joined in and made a real brilliant contribution, sparkling with pure energy.
I left Turin at 12 on the day of the demonstration as I did not even try to go along the streets with a fully loaded touring bike, maybe as well in the end. I arrived in Milano after a good seven hours in the sun and I have some mending to do on my back to surrvive the aftermath of a sunny day.
